2) Today brought a great concern in Tokyo that even with the planned power blackouts the peak usage this morning was very near the electric companies peak output. Pray that conservations efforts will continue to work and especially power to the affected areas will not be cut. The millions households without power has improved greatly over the day.
3) There are nearly 5,500 confirmed dead. This number could easily climb over 10,000 as there are about 15,000 people still missing. Pray for those grieving at the lost of family and friends.
4) Tonight again brings subfreezing temperatures to the affected areas where there is already a shortage of kerosene and electricity for heating. There are over 462,000 in shelters – many with little or no heat, water, food and other essential supplies. There have been reports of hypothermia even in these shelters especially among the elderly. Pray that God would intervene in the weather and supply problems.
5) Elaine heads to Nara tomorrow for the Kansai Christian School board meeting. After much consideration and prayer she has decided to attend this important meeting. She plans to stay overnight so she will not have to fight the congestion for the trains the following day. We anticipate no problems but she is preparing just in case she cannot return as scheduled.
