Yamaguchi Prefecture is a long way from Tokyo. We had never been there before but were invited by our dear friends Mr. & Mrs. N. This trip was about 5 years in the making. It was delayed so many times due to schedule and finances. The relationship with Mr. & Mrs. N goes back at least 7 years, probably more having begun with some short-term English teachers. Yamaguchi is where they grew up and they were very anxious to show us the island called Oshima (big island). We visited their farm near the ocean beach where they grow rice and Mikans (Mandarin oranges). We devoured both and can attest food from farms is the best. Boy, did we eat a lot of fish, and awesomely great fish! Highlights were “Super Sushi” and rare Seto mussels.
We met several of their local friends and one Mr. & Mrs. S will be visiting Elaine’s cooking class in Tokyo later this month. During our visit in Yamaguchi, we discussed religion in general and personal habits of reading the Bible. We plan to invite Mr. & Mrs. N. for American Steaks pretty soon. Like many Japanese, they are rooted in Buddhist and Shinto traditions. Continue to pray for this friendship to grow and for the gospel of Christ to be seen and heard from our lives. We know so many Japanese just like them.
